7. I would like to sign up, but how secure is my information? Can anybody access my personal records? How is confidentiality maintained?
The information we collect as a part of the volunteer registration and credentialing is stored on a highly secured system and is only accessible to official representatives. Please be assured that your contact information will only be used to assist us in contacting you regarding training and emergency deployment. We do not sell, rent or otherwise share your personal information with any third parties.
8. How can I ensure that my particular talents/training/expertise will be utilized?
When you register, you will have the opportunity to enter information about your particular skills, expertise, certifications, etc. At the time of deployment, this information will be considered by those managing the deployment. Efforts will be made to match your skills with the needs of the disaster situation. You can help ensure the proper match by keeping your information about your own competencies and certifications up to date in the DHV system. However, it is important for volunteers to be as flexible as possible about their assignment. Disasters by definition are unpredictable. Thus, the disaster response itself must be fluid to meet multiple priorities and quickly changing demands.
9. How often should I update my information in the DHV system?
It is requested that you update your information any time there is a change in your contact information or professional status. Also, it is recommended that you check on the information and update as needed every 6 months.
